Our Inheritance (Part 2)
Divine Healing

For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.  (Ephs. 1:15-23)

Previously we looked at the definition of the words inheritance and heir…

Inherit: To receive money, property, title as an heir at the death of the previous holder.
to come into possession of belongings of someone else
Heir: a person legally entitled to the property or rank of another person
upon that person’s death

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. (Col. 1:9-12 )

We who have confessed Yeshua as our Savior and Lord have been qualified to share in the inheritance of the saints. We have been translated from the kingdom of darkness and the domain of satan and been made citizens of Yeshua’s Kingdom of Light. We have been given a new heart, a new nature and are now of the household of faith As citizens of the Kingdom, we have rights and privileges that were obtained for us by Yeshua’s death, burial and resurrection.
( Col. 1:13-14, Eph. 2:19, John 3:3, 2 Cor 5:17, Jer. 31:31).

The heart of our inheritance and the most important is salvation but there is much more.

The Scriptures are clear that divine healing has always been available in  God’s covenant.
If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. (Ex. 15:26)

Psalm 103:1-3
Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy Name
Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;
Who forgives all thine iniquity;  Who heals all Thy diseases;

Isaiah 53:3-5 KJV
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Matt 8:17
When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

Barnes Notes on the Bible says that the word translated "griefs" in Isaiah, and "infirmities" in Matthew, means properly, in the Hebrew and Greek, "diseases of the body." The word rendered "sorrows" in Isaiah, and "sicknesses" in Matthew, means "pain, grief, or anguish of mind."  The passages in Isaiah 53 and Matthew 8, therefore, mean precisely the same thing.
Let’s look at the literal meaning of the Hebrew for: sorrows, griefs, borne, carried and peace.
V. 3  sorrows  String’s # 4341 Heb. Trans. “ Makog”..pain
Brown Driver Briggs …physical and mental pain
V. 3..“ Griefs”   Strong’s # 2483 Heb. trans. “Chalah ”..affliction, disease, Illness, sickness.
Brown Driver Briggs …Sickness, disease, incurable disease
V. 4  “Borne”    Strong’s # 5445 Heb. trans. “sabal” ..to bear
Brown Driver Briggs … To bear a heavy load
V. 4  “Carried” is Strong’s #5375 Heb.  trans. “nasah”..lifted
Brown Driver Briggs… lift, carry, take, to carry away.
V. 5   “ Peace” is Strong’s # 7965 Heb. trans. “Shalom”….peace,
Brown, driver, Briggs… soundness in body, completeness, welfare, health, prosperity

This same Hebrew word for “carried” in Isaiah 53:4 is also referencing the scapegoat who
“carried away” the Iniquities of Israel. Lev 16:22.. The goat shall bear (na-sah) on itself
all their iniquities to a solitary land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

Isaac Leeser ( 1806-1868) was a leading figure among American Jews during the 1840’s and  50’s was born in Germany, and came to America at the age of seventeen. He was a devout Jew and became the cantor of his congregation, and shortly thereafter a lay minister of religion. He was the first to preach sermons in English from the lecturn. He devoted himself to educational projects and became prominent as a writer and publisher of Jewish books. His Twenty-four Books of the Holy Scriptures was a revision of the King James Version, in which he aimed to generally improve the accuracy of the version. It was authorized for use by the Orthodox Jews.

The following is Rabbi Isaac Lesser’s  translation of Isaiah 53:1-12
1. Who would have believed our report? and the Arm of the Lord— over whom hath it been revealed?
2. Yea, He grew up like a small shoot before Him, and as a root out of dry land: He had no form nor comeliness, so that we should look at Him; and no countenance, so that we should desire Him.
3. He was despised and shunned by men; a man of pains, and acquainted with disease;
and as one who hid his face**1 from us was He despised, and we esteemed Him not.
4. But only our diseases did He bear Himself, and our pains He carried:
while we indeed esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5. Yet, He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement for our peace was upon Him; and through His bruises was healing granted to us.
6. We all like sheep went astray; every one to his own way did we turn;
and the Lord let befall Him the guilt of us all.
7. He was oppressed, and He was also taunted, yet he opened not His mouth: like the lamb which is  led to the slaughter, and like a ewe before her shearers is dumb; and He opened not His mouth.
8.  Through oppression and through judicial punishment was He taken away; but His generation— who could tell, that He was cut away out of the land of life, (that) for the transgressions of my people
the plague**1 was laid on Him?
9. And He let His grave be made with the wicked, and with the (godless) rich at His death: although He had done no violence, and there was no deceit in His mouth
10. But the Lord was pleased to crush Him through disease: when (now) his soul hath brought the trespass-offering, then shall He see (His) seed, live many days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand
11. (Freed) from the trouble of his soul shall He see (the good) and be satisfied: through His knowledge shall my righteous servant bring the many to righteousness, while He will bear their iniquities.
12. Therefore will I divide Him (a portion) with the many, and with the strong shall He divide the spoil; because He poured out His soul unto death, and with transgressors was He numbered; while He bore the sin of many, and for the transgressors He let (evil) befall Him.

**Lev. 13:45  hid his face… as a leper.. And the 2leper in whom the plague, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and 1 he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean. all the
days that the plague is in him he is unclean; he [is] unclean, alone he doth dwell, at the outside of the camp is his dwelling. * Yeshua was crucified outside Jerusalem....hid His face. .like a leper.

The following is Jewish Publication Society’s translation Hebrew English TaNaKh
published in 1917.

Verses 3 – 4
He was despised, shunned by men,
A man of suffering, familiar with disease,
As one who hid His face from us (**see note)
He was despised, we held Him of no account
Yet it was our sickness He was bearing,
Our suffering that He endured,
We accounted Him plagued,
Smitten and afflicted by God.

Verses 10 - 11
But the Lord chose to crush Him by disease,
That, if He made Himself an offering for guilt,
He might see His offspring and have long life,
and that through Him the Lord’s purpose might prosper.
Out of His anguish, He shall see it:
He shall enjoy it to the full through His devotion.

 *** note: as a leper  Lev. 13:45
And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and the hair of his head shall go loose, and he shall cover his upper lip, and shall cry: ‘Unclean, unclean.’

Dr. Robert Young, (1822 – 1888) an able Hebrew scholar and author of Young's Analytical Concordance to the Bible, translates this passage in his Literal Translation of the Bible in this way:

Isaiah 53: 3 – 4, 10 – 11

He is despised, and left of men, a man of pains and acquainted with sickness
And as one hiding the face from us, he is despised, and we esteemed him not .
Surely our sicknesses He hath borne, and our pains, He hath carried them
And we, we have esteemed him plagued, smitten of God and afflicted.
And He is pierced for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities,
The chastisement of our peace (“is) on him and by His bruise there is healing to us

And Jehovah hath delighted to bruise Him, He hath made Him sick,
If His soul doth make an offering for guilt, he seeth seed-he prolongeth days,
and the pleasure of Jehovah in his hand doth prosper.
Of the labour of His soul He doth see, He is satisfied
Through His knowledge give righteousness, Doth the Righteous One,
My servant, to many, and their iniquities doth bare.

Rotherham's translation of Isaiah 53:3-4,10, The Emphasized Bible
Despised was he and forsaken of men, Man of pains and familiar with sickness,- Yea like one from whom the face is hidden, despised and we esteemed him not
Yet surely, our sicknesses, he, carried, And, as for our pains, he bare the burden of them,—But, we, accounted him stricken, Smitten of God, and humbled.

53:10 ..Yet, Yahweh purposed to bruise him, He laid on him sickness:—If his soul become an offering for guilt, He shall see a seed, He shall prolong his days,—and the purpose of Yahweh in His hand shall prosper.

Salvation is widely taught using the Isaiah 53:6 text, yet the healing of our physical sickness in this same chapter of Isaiah is not widely taught nor understood.
The Divine healing promised in the Mosaic covenant is continued into the re-newed Covenant in Yeshua’s shed Blood..

Some have tried to say this is a “spiritual “healing but we know it is a literal physical healing and not spiritual because the inward spiritual man is not healed but born again a new creation.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.  2 Cor. 5:17

Who our sins Himself did bear in his own body, upon the tree, that we being dead to sins should live unto righteousness ; by whose stripes you werehealed. Peter 2:24

“Were” is past tense…if we were healed then we are healed .
Same thing…if we were saved then we are saved…all we need to do is to accept the gifts of salvation and physical healing obtained for us by Yeshua and given to us. Yeshua bought and paid for this gift in His own Body.

Isaiah 53:1 asks the question…Who has believed our report?

If we believe the report that our iniquities were laid on Yeshua  and because our iniquities were laid on Him we have salvation, then we should also believe that he bore our sickness and disease and carried away our pains. If He bore them then we no longer have to bear them.
We can trust and believe Yahweh’s Word for our physical healing clearly shown in these verses in Isaiah 53.

Divine Healing is just as much a gift in our inheritance as salvation and both were obtained for us by  the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua.

Sin and sickness has passed from me to Yeshua;
Salvation and health has passed from Yeshua to me.

Do we believe the report?
